So I just want to know, what is everyone’s favorite pattern(s) to use for period costuming. (Post yours in the comment section please!)
1) Period (examples: Medieval, Tudor, Elizabethan, 18th C-Early, 18th C-Rev War, Victorian…)
2) Pattern (company name, designation, view. Examples: Simplicity 9633 viewB -Doublet, Margo’s Patterns Tudor Lady’s Wardrobe Kirtle and Gown with square sleeves, Drea Lee’ds Elizabethan Costuming page Corset Generator with boned tabs)
3) Why (I started using the simplicity pattern before Margo came out with hers and it’s made for big guys which is nice, and has both Tudor and Elizabethan views which can be fairly easily adapted to a more period cut. I can’t wait to use my Tudor Margo now that I have my duct tape dress form finished. The corset generator always works well for me, or even the manual one, but I’ll never wear a renaissance corset without tabs, it digs in my hips and hurts.)
I’m just pissed off.
Reconstructing History patterns have never been “Great” patterns. They’ve been “Ok” at best. The sizing is horrible for the larger sizes, and when it says size X will fit size Y measurements, it really means size X will fit size V measurements. Ok, so I can live with fixing some of this stuff for getting the scaled up pattern pieces, and instructions, but then with the women’s Tudor patterns: 601 & 602 until the recent update, had horrible instructions, and NO pictures to help explain how to put the pieces together. I got “The King’s Servants” (YAY!!!). And costume books that MomP picked up for me from their trip to Williamsburg. Plus the PHB and DMG 4-2.
CJ got a great haul, lots of toys, most of them learning toys in some way or another, and some cars from Mom & Dad because they “have wheels”.
So Saturday, Chris passed his Microsoft Certification test (1/3) through a decongestant drug haze. YAY! CJ wasn’t feeling that great and was being completely disagreeable. I just said to hell with going to Wassail. I was not going to go with CJ in that sort of mood, just him and I, in full garb, Daddy at home sick, me not knowing where I’m going. *sigh*
Maybe Val-Day. *shrug*
Ok, CJ’s Edward the 6th outfit is now done…I hemmed it last night. And I also ripped out the skirt & hooks & eyes from the Green Gown, added grommets to the back (I need to go over them with thread), and pinned the skirt up.
Today I stitched the skirt on. I just need to check out the sleeves and what I need to do to those. I may add a modesty panel to the back under the lacing. We’ll see what I have time for. I still have to GM tonight’s game. I’ll have a bit of time to work on it tomorrow morning while Daddy is taking his Microsoft certification test. 
I can’t forget my hat this time.
