Finishing Hats

So I finished attaching the veil to the hood. I’m trying to figure out if I need a clip or something to help it stay up. I also want to add seam binding to the veil.

I also finished a “blackworked” caul. I totally cheated with it. I used the programmed blackwork in my Brother sewing machine to do an edge (I started it this summer) and I free stitched over a sketched out gilly flower. Then I hand embroidered a stem stitch over the flower. So tonight I stitched on the lining, and gathered the edge, and sewed on the petersham grossgrain ribbon over the edge. I think I’m going to need to add loops to bobby pin it on. It’s not big enough to just stay on my head, but too big for just a bun. I really just didn’t leave the open bottom to tie it shut, I made it small on purpose.

“French Hood”

My art project today is attaching a veil to a “French Hood” the quotations are because it’s not period accurate, but period inspired…and more period looking than most things I see at ren-fairs. I also pulled out the fabric for the forepart, sleeves, faking and hood for my Tudor. I bought it years ago…for a forepart and sleeves…I think it will work well. I need to figure out how I want to bead it…it is asking for beading on the forepart and sleeves.

I loose at “art” today

My idea was that I’d work on this embroidery kit that I have…and then I couldn’t find an embroidery needle (I brought everything else to work with me!), so instead I read up on the Margo Tudor Pattern…which is what I really want to be working on anyway. I pretty much just began plotting my next French Hood, and finally grasped (I think) how they were explaining to do the pleats of the skirt to the bodice.  Once I got home, I got a little side tracked with FF1…Tiamat is my b!@+c#. I needed to kill stuff. People today were really dumb. Just because you can breathe and hold a steering wheel doesn’t mean you should.

French Hood pix

Here’s a pic from my phone of the french hood I was working on. This is definitely the nicer of the two. I used photo shop to remove the refrigerator from behind the head which made it really hard to see where the face was…And that is the hood hanging down the back out of a peau de soie poly satin (aka duchess aka low shine). I really like the silver & gold look together, I think it also gives the person wearing it more versatility with their jewelry.

Finished French Hood

Plus the other day I was able to finish the last reloading cover for my father in law who was quite pleased to not have to constantly clean saw dust out of his expensive machines. YAY!!!
Now let’s see if I can squeeze in a little vest for CJ to wear to the Ren Fest tomorrow…which makes me wonder, what am I going to wear? I’ve got the vest cut out, and it’s not going to button so it doesn’t matter, it’s just a little costume piece…I’ve got to sew it up right when I get home before the guys get there.

Stuff getting done!

Yay for stuff getting accomplished!!!
This weekend Chris was out of town and I was recovering from a sinus infection so I stayed with my parents Friday, and my in-laws on Saturday. Both Moms helped keep an eye on CJ so I could get some stuff done , and I got 2/3 of DadP’s reloading machine covers done. I did a little with a caul to sell. Sunday MomP watched CJ so I could go to a sewing day with some of the girls. I was able to finish one of the french hoods I’ve been working on, and the last reloading cover, and got a bit done on several coifs.
It was a very successful weekend. Yay!!!
Pictures soon to come.
