Placket or Modesty Panel:

Plackets, or Modesty Panels are used in costuming to keep the area behind the hook and eyes or lacing from exposing the wearer or their undergarments.

A placket is an opening in a garment or the overlapping layers of fabric that cover or disguise such an opening. ~From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a picture of a placket from the inside of the garment.
I have it sewn to just the far side of the hooks and eyes (the side furthest away from the edge).
You can see a slight bit of the yellow brocade placket behind the hooks and eyes.

Usually you would want the placket to be made of the same color, if not the same fabric as the outer layer, so it becomes invisible, but I wanted it to look like a contrasting color corset beneath it.

No Placket

You can see on this bodice, I don't have a placket, and you can see the narrow white line going all the way down the back where it gaps to show the shirt beneath. This was a test fit anyway...
